Sterling Music Room - An experimental salon and exhibition venue

Two-sided poster, folded, on newsprint paper with gold sticker; poster includes two inlays

Throughout 2016, I opened my apartment in Crown Heights in Brooklyn as a salon, exhibition and performance space, guest room, and more, to see how its living room could be utilized as both a platform for events and encounters that would strengthen the social bonds between friends and colleagues, and a space for reflection on the current living conditions in New York City. Sterling Music Room took place in what I then declared to be an 'ambiguous DIY period room,' and with a program structure that allowed for serendipity and chance.

In December 2017, exactly a year after Sterling Music Room's closing, a poster has been printed, uniting a documentation of its events with a reflection on its motivations.

Participants of Sterling Music Room included:
Nawaaz Ahmed (writer), Bonnie Begusch (artist), Mark Boswell (filmmaker / storyteller), Zachary Fabri (artist / performer), Eliza Hornig (writer), Oliver Husain (artist / filmmaker), Joanna Kotze (choreographer / performer), Jason Lazarus (artist), lumberob and dan (performers), Rick Myers (artist), Jeff Sims (artist), Tyler Wayne Smith (countertenor) + Chelsea Musica (Chamber Ensemble), Jo-ey Tang (artist / curator), Total Effekt (Aron Kullander-Östling, Stina Löfgren, Pål Rodenius - designers/illustrators/artists), Vier5 (designers), Steven Zultanski (writer), and many more.
